Common questions

The labels don't line up with what I see. Phone compasses drift, especially near metal, speakers or cars. If the app says the compass is inaccurate, move your phone in a figure-8. Then tap Calibrate and drag the sky until a label sits on something you can see, such as the Moon, a bright planet or a plane. The correction is saved.

Why can't I see the satellite the app is pointing at? Most satellites are only visible for an hour or two after sunset or before sunrise, when they're still in sunlight and your sky is dark. The info card says whether an object is sunlit or in Earth's shadow, and the pass list marks the passes you can see with your eyes. Debris is usually too small to see at all.

No aircraft are showing. Aircraft come from adsb.lol, a free community service, and the status chip says when it's unavailable. Planes also need to be within about 50 nautical miles and broadcasting their position.

Does it work indoors or in daytime? Yes. Positions are calculated, not detected, so the labels show where everything is even behind a ceiling or in daylight.

Does it need an account? Does it track me? No account, no ads, no analytics. See the privacy policy: upglass.app/privacy
